Blackboard: Course Copy
print icon

Blackboard allows an instructor to copy the contents of a course into another course section. This is helpful when a new semester begins and you want to reuse the content from the previous section without having to build the content again.

Click here to view video instructions, or proceed below for written instructions with screenshots

To copy content from one course to another, navigate to the new course that is currently empty.

Click on the three-dot icon in the upper right corner of the course and select Copy Items:

On the next screen, check the box for the course that contains the contents you want to copy into the new course. Checking the box will allow you to make an exact copy of all the contents. We recommend copying the entire course at once rather than copying only certain items as many things are left out of the copy process when you only choose certain content items. If you cannot find the course you want to copy, use the search function at the top of the page to narrow down the number of courses listed.

Check the box for the course and click Start Copy in the lower right corner:

You will be taken back to your course content page and see a notice at the bottom of the page that the course is currently being copied. This process can take between 2-10 minutes. You may need to close out of the course and come back once it has finished in order for the content to be visible.

The course copy will then be complete. Watch for any errors at the top of the page for items that may not have copied and read through the error logs. Check to ensure that all items have copied over.
